Sheila is Arthur Birling's daughter. She may be compared to him:

• self-important and throws weight around as in Milwards
• causes Eva to lose her job ('Get rid of....or I'll...............')
• uncaring of the consequences of her actions on a lower class person

However, there are many contrasts:

Sheila reacts sympathetically to the news of Eva's suicide ('Oh- how ..........'), whereas Arthur is dismissive ('Yes, yes. Horrid...........')

S wants to hear more ('Was it.. ..................?') but A wants to get on with the party.

Sheila’s intuitive judgement is usually right, as when she works out …………..

• S shows sound judgement in recognising the Inspector's knowing about them (Quotation)

After Goole leaves, Sheila's attitude is (find the quotations)

Her father's attitude is

Sheila responds to this with sarcasm ('I suppose we're all ...........people now')

Priestley uses dramatic devices to reveal character.

• one interrogation at a time focuses all our attention -we get to know them well
• hindsight enables us to know from the start that B's judgement is...................
• the device of two endings enables us to feel that Sheila will cope, having grown, but her father will not cope, if a girl really has committed suicide.

In conclusion, although they all helped to kill her, S is more responsible for her death than Birling because he arguably had a legitimate reason for sacking her, whereas she acted out of ............ and spite.
