Football

This is a project for your Original Writing, worth 4% of your English coursework. Remember that spelling, punctuation and grammar are very important in this section. Your handwriting is also marked!

1 write out the radio commentary of the most exciting ten minutes of a football match you have seen or heard about.

2 during the match fighting breaks out in one part of the ground; write two accounts: a. as a police officer, write a formal report of the incident b. as an eye witness, describe what you saw.

3 write a brief history of your favourite team. Describe your favourite player and explain why he is so good.

4 write out the interview given by one of the players or managers after the match.

5 write out the two, different, newspaper reports which may have appeared in the local paper of each team. Remember the events, though obviously the same, can be interpreted v ery differently by each side!

6 choose one of the following:

a what causes the trouble at some football matches?

b what provisions are there for girls' soccer?

7 descriptive writing; choose one of the following:

a going to the match and arriving in the crowd just before the game

b the reactions of the crowd just before the game

c half-time activities and conversations

d the nearly empty ground after the match

8 design and describe a new kit

9 defend football from the charge that it is distracting fans from their school work.
